2019 was a challenging year of photographing for me because of a self-imposed limitation to only process in black and white. While I feel the year was tremendously enlightening, it also means there are many images I have yet to revisit for processing in color.
I think this image can be interpreted a couple different ways. First, and most optimistic, is that the limbs and branches in the foreground read as the roots for the standing trees at the ridge line. The organic shapes and twisting limbs resemble a root system pulled from the soil. The second way I read the image is that the foreground limbs act as a prophetic warning to the trees above. The background trees stand witness to their fallen comrades.
